Rock & Roll Happy Hour with Urge Gastropub & Mason Ale Works

The Dude has a new spot to roll

April 11, 2017

“Careful, man, I got a beverage here!”

You read it right everyone! First there was Urge American Gastropub in Rancho Bernardo. Then along came Urge Gastropub and Whiskey Bank in Oceanside. And now Urge Gastropub and Common House is opening in San Marcos. Of course there’s all the great things we’ve come to love about Urge: their incredible burgers, the bacon, the craft beer, the bacon, the fried cheese curds…the bacon. And now, unbelievably, there’s BOWLING! Dang, how much do we love these guys? Enough to have ‘em on the show tonight!

Co-founder and spiritual Sherpa of all things Urge Grant Tondro is joining us to get us pumped for the grand opening of their newest venue. It’s a doozy alright: 22,000 square feet of burgers, beer, bowling, bocce ball and the best damn time to be had by all. Located in the North City development of San Marcos, it’s cozied up right next to Cal State just off of Twin Oaks Valley Rd. So ditch the rush hour on Hwy 78 and take a little detour to big fun. The station’s studio is not quite big enough to accommodate knocking over some pins, but Grant is bringing in some tasty beverages courtesy of Mason Ale Works and some other crafty friends of ours. Hope you’re thirsty!

  • Gunner Noir A truly delicious black IPA where the dark malts and hops are holding hands and skipping down the lane, rather than duking it out. Named in honor of brewmaster Matt’s son.
  • Maison Saison Brewed in collaboration with a dinky little Nor Cal brewery you may have heard of (hint SN are the initials) and aged in cabernet sauvignon barrels for a year. It is exclusively available at Urge’s three locales and pairs perfectly with their wings
  • Velvet Echo It’s Urge’s 6th Anniversary Beer. A special batch of Speedway Stout, brewed by Peter and the gang at AleSmith, it’s been aged in the  in the very same Elijah Craig barrels that were used for their Urge’s 5th anniversary masterpiece. It’s reason enough to show up for the grand opening in San Marcos on Monday.
  • The Quintana “F***in’ A, man, that creep can roll.” A White Russian Cocktail with Cutwater’s astonishing Fugu Horchata Vodka as the base booze. Dude…man, I mean…well…this will make you want to kidnap yourself. Pairs well with a purple jumpsuit
  • Second Son This rare and unknown gem is from the Mason “Snaleworks” barrel-aged slow release program. Brace yourselves, beer geeks. It’s a 50/50 blend of barrel aged stout and barley wine. It definitely picked up some spirit while it was hiding out in the wood and clocks in at 14% abv—a nice, sessionable level, yes? Look for the black on black label. Only 150 cases. Seek them out. Now.
