Strange Lights Over San Diego Spur Alien Speculation

There were some freaky things happening in the sky, last night.

People admiring the night sky over San Diego Wednesday night got an eyeful of mysterious lights that sent them scrambling to social media.

The lights appeared around 8:20 p.m. and were seen as far away as Del Mar and San Ysidro.

"Looks like floating balls of fire." one spectator tweeted.

Initially, the lights aligned in a row and appeared to hover in the sky. They were eventually joined by a second row of lights.

The official explanation from CBS 8 is that the lights were part of a military exercise using flares from Squadron VMGR-325 based out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

For those of us raised on X-Files, we know better.
