ALT 949 - San Diego's Alternative

Annnnnd that's a wrap! WHAT A YEAR.

Here's my top 10 albums of 2018 \m/

10. Bishop Briggs - Church Of Scars (released April 20, 2018)

This. Girl. She is so awesome. Aside from the fact that she's an A+ human, this album just really like cuts to your core. It feels like Bishop is reading her diary out loud in song form and somehow, it sounds even better live in concert (can confirm, she SLAYED at Indie Jam in September)

9. Cardi B - Invasion Of Privacy (released April 5, 2018)

YAS QUEEN. A little out of the norm for an alt-gal like myself, but there's no denying that this album is chop-full of bangers. I'm STILL not sick of any of the songs, and I've listened a LOT.

8. Marian Hill - Unusual (released May 11, 2018)

Ugh man, I was hooked after "Differently" dropped (which is a gr8 breakup anthem btw), and the album wasn't even out yet. It's the perfect romance of electronic and flowing vocals and it makes for lots of bops.

7. The Story So Far - Proper Dose (released September 21, 2018)

Such a WEIRDDD album from TSSF because it's so dang happy. And like...they're never happy haha. But they've been one of my favorite bands since seriously 2011, so I let it grow on me and now I dig it a lot.

6. The Wonder Years - Sister Cities (released April 6, 2018)

Old habits die hard. Being a pop-punk kid is one of those habits. I got a chance to talk to Soupy before this album dropped and asked if he was nervous about criticism because fans of this scene can be very harsh. He said there's always criticism with new albums because people haven't had a chance to adapt it into their lives yet and let it be part of their memories, so they don't feel as connected to the new stuff at first. I seriously thought that was one of the most insightful things I've ever heard.

5. Post Malone - Beerbongs & Bentleys (released April 27, 2018)

LISTEN, OKAY. Alternative music comes in many forms, and Posty is genre-bending like a motha. He dropped this album practically out of nowhere and it's 18 songs worth of an emotional rollercoaster. This guy is just making music that he digs, smoking cigs on stage and not really trying to impress anyone...he's just managing to impress everyone in the process.

4. Turnstile - Time & Space (released February 23, 2018)

This was the first new album of the year that I REALLY dove into and it started my year with a bang. These guys are f*cking crazy high energy and their music is like a punch in the face...but a good punch in the face, ya know? Like a punch in the face in the middle of a moshpit and you keep smiling after. Anyways, it's really good.

3. Alison Wonderland - Awake (released April 6, 2018)

MY BBYGIRL. I had been waiting so patiently for this for so long and the wait well worth it. Every. Single. Song. Is. Gold.  "Okay" hypes me like no other, "Easy" gets me in my feels, "No" and "Church" and "Cry" strike a major girl-power chord and "Awake" makes me cry happy tears because ugh, she's just so talented and I'm so proud of her.

2. Brockhampton - Iridescence (released September 21, 2018)

If you would've asked me in August what my Top 10 albums of the year were, I never would have thought that this album would make my list--especially since I literally had never even *heard* of Brockhampton at that point. But holy sh*t. More genre-bending and just literally changing of the game. I love that so much.

1. Panic! At The Disco - Pray For The Wicked (released June 22, 2018)

I loved him in his emover and guyliner phase, and 13 years later, that love is still running strong. I feel like P!ATD is one of those artists I've grown up with--literally. His music has been evolving and so have I, which is why I think I love everything he does (yes, even the metal thing). Dude is crazy talented and this is such a fun album. If you're gonna blast one album at your New Year's Eve party, this had gotta be the one. Oh, and break out the sequin blazer while you're at it.
